ACCESS2ACCESS

Shaping the future EU access pathways for research infrastructures
ACCESS2ACCESS
1 May 2026 – 31 Dec 2027
Researchers struggle to identify and utilise RI capabilities in Europe’s fragmented landscape due to unfamiliarity with RI terminology or structures, resulting in missed opportunities to leverage the diverse RI portfolio. ACCESS2ACCESS lays the foundations for a future European access framework enabling world-class research through open, integrated and sustainable use of Research Infrastructures (RIs). It unites leading RIs across domains to address a core need: making access discoverable, inclusive, fair, efficient, scalable and adaptable, while aligning with ERA priorities, the European Charter for Access to RIs and the next MFF/FP10.

CaBRIOH

Capacity building in research infrastructures towards One Health
CaBRIOH
1 Sep 2026 – 31 Aug 2029
Pandemics, antibiotic resistance, climate change and deforestation have clearly exposed a bitter truth: the health of humans, animals, plants and ecosystems is inextricably linked. The One Health paradigm calls for an integrated response but its success depends on a workforce of technical professionals from all maturity levels. The CaBRIOH project unites leading actors across the ESFRI Health & Food domain. Together, these partners provide comprehensive coverage of the One Health agenda. The project has two parts: the extensive provision of high-quality training modules—including mobility schemes that link RIs across countries and domains—and the NextGen training platform, a hub that consolidates all offers, personalises learning pathways, and ensures skills are recognised through micro-credentials, Europass and EU Digital Identity Wallets.

ECHoS

Establishing cancer mission hubs: beyond networks and synergies
ECHoS
1 Jul 2026 – 30 Jun 2031
Cancer remains one of Europe’s most urgent health challenges, with cases projected to exceed 3.24 million by 2040. Confronting this reality requires coordinated action that bridges research, policy, healthcare and society. Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan (2020) and the EU Mission on Cancer (2021) placed cancer at the core of the EC political agenda, creating a mission-oriented framework that promotes collaboration across sectors and governance levels. Within this landscape, National Cancer Mission Hubs (NCMHs) have emerged as key conveners of diverse stakeholders, bridging siloed sectors and translating strategic objectives into practical solutions. ECHoS moves from the foundations laid by ECHoS (2023–2026) by focusing on consolidation, capacity-building and long-term sustainability.

EPND

Accelerates neurodegenerative disease research by uniting cohorts and enabling secure access to data and biosamples
EPND
1 Nov 2021 – 31 Oct 2026
Currently, there is a lack of treatments to prevent or modify the progression of neurodegenerative diseases that affect millions of people in Europe. Critical progress in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases is challenged by longstanding barriers to collaboration across the research process. Despite robust research efforts and significant amounts of data and samples, there are few secure, accessible, and sustainable ways to discover and share clinical data and biosamples at scale. Without a collective effort, research on neurodegenerative diseases will stall. The European Platform for Neurodegenerative Diseases (EPND) consortium accelerates collective efforts by removing traditional barriers to collaboration and discovery and integrating research cohorts to facilitate information, biosamples and data exchange.

PALACROS

Prioritising multimodal surgical care for patients with locally advanced pancreatic cancer across Europe
PALACROS
1 Jul 2026 – 30 Jun 2032
Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest solid tumour in Europe, with a 5-year survival of 13%. Locally advanced pancreatic cancer (LAPC) affects >50,000 Europeans annually and is essentially fatal without surgery. In recent years, expert centres have doubled their LAPC-resection rates up to 20% through novel multimodal systemic therapy and surgical techniques. However, randomised trials confirming the benefit of this approach are lacking. In most European countries max 5% of patients with LAPC undergo resection. This inequity translates into survival gaps of 20% between countries, making LAPC one of the clearest examples of cancer inequality in Europe. PALACROS will optimise surgery-centred multimodal LAPC-treatment across Europe through training and (randomised) trials.

RI-SCALE

Unlocking RI potential with scalable AI and data
RI-SCALE
1 Mar 2025 – 29 Feb 2028
Scientific discoveries increasingly rely on data and AI. Research infrastructures (RIs) generate huge amounts of complex data, but managing, analysing and using this information is becoming a major challenge. Scientists often lack the large-scale tools and expertise needed to process data quickly and effectively. With this in mind, the EU-funded RI-SCALE project is tackling this issue by creating scalable Data Exploitation Platforms. These platforms will combine scientific data with preconfigured AI tools and powerful computing resources, unlocking their full potential. Working with four RIs (ENES, EISCAT, BBMRI and Euro-BioImaging), RI-SCALE will test the technology in environmental and life sciences. It will also foster collaborations to help more RIs adopt these innovations.

SIRENE
1 Oct 2026 – 30 Sep 2031
The ambition of the SIRENE project is to increase the problem-solving capacity of European society in the environmental and public health space and improve capabilities to find and understand disease causations not explained by genetics. While the One Health framework is increasingly recognised as a critical approach to addressing planetary health risks, its practical implementation is limited by disciplinary silos. The exposome concept promoting holistic characterisation of the non-genetic factors that influence phenotype and health over the life course offers a unifying scientific framework to address this gap.
