Who we are
The BBMRI-ERIC Quality Management (QM) team is an international, highly motivated group of professionals with extensive expertise in biobanking, biomedical and life sciences. Embedded within the BBMRI-ERIC research infrastructure, we provide strategic leadership and support to the biobanking network, united by a shared commitment to excellence, quality and sustainability. Acting as a collaborative driver of alignment and innovation, we position quality management as a core enabler of trust, interoperability and lasting impact.
What we do
Trustworthy research depends on reliable, high-quality biological material and associated data. We therefore focus on standardising and harmonising quality-relevant biobank operations and procedures across countries, institutions, and biobanks, in line with international and European standards. Our work is grounded in a strong community of experts and Quality Leads across the BBMRI-ERIC network. Together, we provide a diverse portfolio of quality management services and exchange forums tailored to different levels of need – from early guidance to advanced support – ensuring practical relevance and shared ownership. We keep the community up to date on quality management and standardisation developments, upskill biobank personnel through professional training programmes, and operate an audit programme to verify alignment with biobank-relevant standards.

By enabling reliable use and reuse of biological material and associated data across researchers and borders, we accelerate biomedical discovery, support evidence-based innovation and public health, and ensure that public investment in research infrastructures delivers measurable, long-term societal value.
