The webinar will take place on 10 November 2026, 10:30-11:30 CET
Summary:
Cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis is an increasingly important component of liquid biopsy, enabling non-invasive biomarker research, disease detection and monitoring. Urine represents an attractive specimen type due to its ease of collection and potential to provide information from both urological and non-urological diseases. However, urine cfDNA is highly susceptible to preanalytical variables that can affect sample quality, quantity and analytical reliability.
This webinar introduces urine cfDNA and its applications in liquid biopsy, highlights key challenges associated with specimen collection, stabilization, processing, and cfDNA quality control, and explains why standardization of the preanalytical workflow is essential. Drawing on the concepts underlying the ISO 18704 standard, participants will gain practical insights into factors that contribute to reproducible and reliable urine cfDNA analyses.
Speaker
Dr. Daniela Mancarella-Langer (QIAGEN)
Host
Dr. Maike Tauchert
- Explain the biological origin of cfDNA and its role in liquid biopsy applications.
- Describe the opportunities and limitations of urine as a specimen for cfDNA analysis.
- Identify critical preanalytical variables that influence urine cfDNA quality, quantity and downstream analytical performance.
- Understand the importance of specimen stabilization, processing, cfDNA isolation, quality control, and documentation to obtain reliable results.
