WHO/IARC Common minimum technical standards and protocols for biological resource centres dedicated to cancer research

Biobanking has evolved rapidly, driven by personalised medicine, the growing need for high-quality biological samples and data and advances in molecular and genetic technologies.

The recommended book provides evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for biobanks in both high-income and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). It covers key areas including sample and data sharing, ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI), harmonisation, open access and governance, supporting transparent operations and international research collaboration.

The book also draws on IARC’s experience coordinating the LMICs Biobank and Cohort Building Network (BCNet) and managing international biobank collections, including the EPIC study.
